Review by Beth
Through beautiful poetic verses, Woodson takes us through her personal story and family history in the multi-award winning book, Brown Girl Dreaming. Growing up in both the North and the South as an African-American, Woodson has a unique perspective of the turbulent times during Jim Crow and the Civil Rights movement.
Reading a biography written in verses may seem strange at first. However, this book flows nicely and the short poems are surprisingly packed with vivid details that are a pleasure to read.
