Nightlights Review

Review by Beth

Sandy has a quite the colorful imagination. This can get her in trouble at her strict catholic elementary school, especially with the draconian Sister Dolores. Sandy’s mind tends to drift off into other worlds and afterwards she draws elaborate, beautiful pictures that bring those worlds to life. One day, Sandy meets a new girl named Morfie who absolutely loves Sandy’s pictures, so much in fact that this is when this book takes an unsuspected turn. I do not want to give too much away, but things get a little creepy and Sandy’s delightful drawings start to get darker and strange.

Lorena Alvarez’s artwork is whimsical and adorable. I found myself smiling at the pages filled with Sandy’s imaginative worlds, trying to find all the different characters and creatures. While I enjoyed this short tale, I think kids aged 8 to 12 will eat it up!
