The Book of Three Review

Review by Amber

Taran wants to be a hero, but is instead is stuck looking after a pig named Hen Wen. Little does he know, little Hen Wen’s escape leads Taran into his quest: to defeat the evil Horned King and the Cauldron-Born monsters he commands. He makes friends along the way: the exaggerating bard Fflewddur Flamm; the smart, independent Princess Eilonwy; and the ravenous, fiercely loyal Gurgi. Together, they have to search the kingdom for Hen Wen and find a way to save the people of Prydain while learning courage, and true friendship. This is the first book in a series of five, and each volume is better than the one before, with the fifth winning the Newbery Award. With sword fights, horse chases, and more than a few laughs, these books will inspire any young hero- or heroine-in-training.
