Balkan Brass Battle Review

Ryan’s review:

Break the peace and balkanize! Two eminent Gypsy brass bands, Fanfare Ciocarlia and the Boban and Marko Markovic Orchestra, square off in a “battle” that purports to have been recorded in “the cold outbacks of Transylvania.” Fans of ska or the tuba-heavy Banda Sinaloense style may want to give this spirited material a listen; but the music on Balkan Brass Battle really constitutes a genre unto itself. This is funky, farty, frenetic horn hooliganism to put the savor of blood in your mouth. Put this on and turn it up to an unnecessarily loud volume to let your neighbors know that you still despise them with an ancient hatred and that your taste in music is better than theirs, too.
