Review by Ellen
The Price family are Cryptozoologists; they study cryptids, creatures science says don’t exist. Many cryptids are sentient and can pass for human. Cuckoos (who are telepathic), boogeyman (who prefer darkness), dragon girls, and more. Cryptozoologists study them, protect them, and hunt them when they are dangerous to humans and sentient cryptids. They protect cryptids from humans, and protect humans from cryptids. These books tell their stories.
In the first book, Discount Armageddon, Verity Price is in New York trying to make it as a professional ballroom dancer. But she’s a Price, and being a cryptozoologist is part of who she is. Verity discovers that Cryptids are disappearing. And a member of the Covenant of St. George, who want to destroy all cryptids, is in town. It’s up to Verity to find out what’s going on.
I enjoy, in these books, seeing all the different cryptids, many close to human in form, and yet all so very different. It’s like the different kinds of people that inhabit our human world, but even more variation. Plus the stories and characters are interesting and well written.
