The Invisible Empire Review

Review by Carly

This graphic novel is a heavy hitter. As a heads up, this is your trigger warning. This graphic novel contains violence and rape. This non-fiction graphic novel is about the KKK and how they rooted themselves in Indiana and were forced out. Sometimes it is hard to accurately describe a book when it deals with difficult topics. This graphic novel should be read by everyone. Madge Oberholtzer should be a name that is known throughout history. Without her, the KKK may have easily been left embedded in the veins of Indiana. The graphic novel art style is almost like a telltale videogame style, while normally this isn’t my favorite style of illustration it fits this novel perfectly. The eyes and wicked smiles of some characters leap off the page and give you a chill right down to your bones. A fast-paced read that you can finish quickly but that will stick with you for a lifetime.
