Hamnet Review

Review by Darla

Not at all what I expected.  This captivating novel manages to give us insight into the private life of William Shakespeare, yet never mentions his name.  The story focuses primarily on his wife, his abusive father, and his beautiful children; Mr. Shakespeare is a prop in his own play. It is a moving portrait of a long- distance marriage, loss of a child, and the often deleterious effects of a successful career.  It is heartbreaking, uplifting and oh, so surprising.  I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys their fiction well written with a little mystery and a little magic.
