Sea Salt and Honey Review

Review by Magda

When travel to Greece is impossible, create a Greek paradise at home with the help of this amazing cookbook, Sea Salt and Honey, by the Greek American family of Tsakiris. The book contains 100 delicious modern and classical recipes, mainly using ingredients easy to get locally. The book is accompanied by beautiful images of the Greek isles, the story of the Tsakiris family members, and depictions of them and their finished recipes. It is the standard cookbook fashion, and it contains appetizers (called Mezes here), vegetables, sundries, main dishes, hearty dinners, and baked goods. Since this is a Mediterranean cookbook, it has a special section dedicated to fish. Introduction to the book provides basic Greek ingredients and some local substitutes. The recipes I tried and loved were the buttermilk cauliflower tossed with buffalo sauce and the nettle and spinach pie. (Nettle is harvested only in the springtime but could be stored in the freezer the rest of the year). The winner of the recipes, however, was the Carrot Cake with Honey. This cookbook temporarily transported my kitchen and dining table to Greece in the summertime. I could almost smell the salty air in my mind. Enjoy this great Greek cookbook!
