Review by Kim W.
In this incredibly unique historical fantasy, Iris is a tightrope performer in a traveling circus. Though she has created a family within the circus, she has no memory of her life before she came there, she has not aged in the 10 years she’s been with the circus, nor can she die – something she keeps a secret from everyone. She is desperate to find out who she is and where she came from when she encounters a strange yet somehow familiar man who offers her a dangerous opportunity to finally uncover her past. What follows is a thrilling, cutthroat tale that takes a large and diverse cast of characters through a steampunk-esque version of Victorian London. It’s hard to describe this book – it’s a little fantasy, a little sci-fi, a little romance, a little horror, a little social commentary, and a large mystery. I’m really excited to see where Raughley takes the rest of the series.
