The movie Home is a recent Hoopla addition starring Jake McLaughlin, Kathy Bates, and Aisling Franciosi. This movie is more appropriate for mature audiences. Marvin (Jake McLaughlin) leaves prison after 17 years of incarceration. He skateboards home over time and is faced by his mother, Bernadette (Kathy Bates), as she is battling a terminal illness. Many residents are unhappy about Marvin’s return. Oddly enough, Marvin ultimately connects with Delta (Aisling Franciosi), the granddaughter of the victim who was impacted by Marvin’s criminal actions.

I specifically appreciated the relationship between Marvin and his mother, especially as it seemed to grow and develop more as she dealt with her illness. Bernadette showed that she was a fighter until the end.

This movie caused me to consider how I might respond to someone who may have harmed one of my loved ones. The themes of redemption and forgiveness were introduced several times during this movie. I like this movie because it caused me to critically assess where I might stand in terms of my ability to forgive someone after they harmed one of my family members or friends.
