The Last House on Needless Street Review

Review by Shannon

I loved this book! It took me a little while to get into it, though – fair warning. The opening chapters introduce a number of characters: Ted, the owner of said last house. Olivia, his cat. Lauren, Ted’s teenage daughter, who isn’t allowed to leave the house. And Dee, who moves in next door. Dee was a teenager herself when her family came on a day trip to the lake not too far from Needless Street; her little sister Lulu went missing that day. And Dee has become convinced that Ted, who lives in a ramshackle house where the windows are all boarded up, kidnapped her sister, and that maybe, just maybe, she’s still alive…

Part of the appeal of this book is working out just what exactly is going on. Considering that one of the main characters is a cat – a cat who reads the Bible, at that – there’s a lot to work out. But once you get going, it’s quite a ride. When I hit the 50% mark, I couldn’t put it down; I had to finish it that night. And I can guarantee that you will not be able to guess what’s coming.
